James Loud: Cannabis Genetics, Selection and Tissue Culture

James Loud takes a comprehensive approach to cannabis breeding, from developing and selecting new genetics to propagation and quality control in an in-house laboratory environment. According to the company, the team has more than 25 years of experience working with plants. Its priorities include clean starting material, diverse terpene profiles and new cultivars whose traits are assessed before release.

Quick facts
Experience: more than 25 years working with plants (company statement)
Genetic library: over 1,000 cultivars
Specialties: breeding, selection, tissue culture and pathogen screening
Quality approach: in-house screening and additional third-party testing
Goal: clean, diverse genetics with well-assessed traits

A central part of this approach is the tissue culture program. According to the company, plant material is incorporated into its in-house tissue culture and pathogen screening processes. New cultivars are also tested in different production environments to better understand their potential. James Loud thus combines conventional breeding with laboratory-based quality control.
